Kansas Speedway Racing Update
(Posted June 24, 2009)
- The average age of the top-5 finishers in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Michigan is 19 years old and four of the top-5 finishers are still considered teenagers. At 22-years-old, third-place finisher Chase Miller is the oldest of the top-5 finishers and no driver who finished in the top-10 has yet reached their 30th birthday.
Twelfth-place finisher Frank Kimmel, who is the only driver with three wins at Kansas Speedway , made his career first ARCA RE/MAX Series start at Toledo Speedway on July 1, 1990--one month before race winner/current point leader Parker Kligerman was born.
- Cunningham Motorsports' Parker Kligerman, a development driver for Penske Racing, spent the weekend between his Senior Prom at Staples High School in Westport , Conn. , and high school final exams winning the ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Michigan . It was Kligerman's second win of the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series and seventh top-10 finish in eight starts this season. Austin Dillon, who finished a career best second in a No. 31 RCR Chevrolet, just recently completed his senior year of high school.
- The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has a decidedly Kansas Speedway flare after this past weekend’s race in Michigan . Mark Martin, who won at Kansas in 2005, captured his second win of the season after past Kansas Speedway winners Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle ran out of gas. Leading the Sprint Cup Series point standings again this week is Tony Stewart, who won in a fuel mileage race at Kansas in 2006. Behind Stewart in points is two-time Kansas Speedway winner Jeff Gordon.
- Carl Edwards leads the local contingent of drivers in the Sprint Cup championship standings in sixth place. Clint Bowyer is 16th and Jamie McMurray is 19th.
- Joey Logano captured his second NASCAR Nationwide Series win this past weekend. Former Kansas Speedway Kansas Lottery 300 winner Kyle Busch continues to lead the point standings over Edwards by 137 points.
