Lathrop Mules Football Season Gets Underway
(Posted August 23, 2008)
The fans of the Lathrop High School Mules got their first look at the 2008 team at the Jamboree hosted by the Orrick Bearcats and held at Excelsior Springs High School. The participating teams in the jamboree exhibition were the Orrick Bearcats, the Lathrop Mules and the Cass-Midway Vikings.
Each team was allotted 18 plays on offense and defense as is the tradition in jamboree football.
In their first session, the Mules competed against the Midway Vikings. The Mules' defense held up against the Vikings and didn't allow a touchdown. The Mules' offense moved the ball well in the offensive half of the session and managed one touchdown on a 11 year pass from Duncan Jones to Seth Stonum.
In the Mules' second session, things didn't go as well as they competed against the defending 1A state champions, the Orrick Bearcats. The Bearcats defense was very quick and the Mules' offense could only manage one first down (and no touchdowns) against them. Once they switched to offense, the Bearcats ripped off two long touchdown runs within the first five plays from scrimmage and finished with three touchdowns against the Mules' defense.
The Lathrop Mules' 2008 official season begins next Friday as the Mules make the long trip down to Carrollton for the season opener. The Mules will have quite a few new faces in their starting lineup from last season.
